There are plans for 570 houses on green belt land off next to Wingletye Lane in Emerson Park. Developers asked the council if they would need an Environmental Impact Assessment when submitting a planning application. The council have decided that the development does not need this assessment, which means the planning application will be easier for the developers and there will be less consideration of the impact of building over 21.5 hectares of agricultural land.
With only limited access through Benets Road many local residents oppose the development and are calling on the council to block the development. The site is within a Minerals Safeguarding Area and is designated an Archaeological Priority Area too.
