"Havering Council need to keep their pledge on weekly refuse collections" says Adam Baker

After a successful campaign by Conservative councillor David Taylor, your local Conservatives continue to their commitment to keep weekly refuse collections.

With over 2000 residents supporting Councillor Taylor's petition, it has been made clear to the council that residents do not want to lose weekly refuse collections. The negative effects that include more pressure on local services at Gerpins Lane Tip, increased fly-tipping and pollution leading to more rats and foxes. Most significantly, the maths do not add up! With the large cost of wheelie bins and increased workforce to empty smaller public bins, savings will not be huge. Instead, residents will suffer.

However, whilst we are all pleased to see the council rule out the cuts to bin collections, the council must continue their commitment by removing the proposed cuts from the misleading public consultation and listen to the widespread opposition. Upminster ward activist, Adam Baker has said "Havering Council need to keep their pledge on weekly refuse collections in order to provide the value for money the Residents Association were elected on." Your local Conservative team understand the need to improve recycling in Havering, however, with glass and a wider range of plastic being accepted in orange bags at some point in 2023, Havering will be able to recycle.

Despite a 9.5% increase to the council budget from government in April, the Residents Association Political Party and Labour coalition continue their plan to sacrifice services. The official consultation claims there will be a £650k saving over 4 years however, with the numbers published in several council meetings by Conservative councillors, it is clear that this number is inaccurate. We fear the HRA/Labour coalition will abandon residents through a misleading public consultation.

Your local conservative team believe in weekly refuse collections in it's entirety at all times.
